The question about the Church's role in the education on the Polish lands in the 19th century is still debated. The interpretation of the sources provides an interesting outlook onto the Church's role in this particular aspect. The article outlines certain enterprises undertaken by the Church in the general education on the Polish lands in the second half of the 19th century. In place of the environmental protection, which was not yet valid in the 19th century the Church suggested molding the surrounding environment as a way of continuing the act of creation.
