The optical emission characteristics of Bi-doped soda-lime-silicate glass is investigated in the near-infrared region. Results show an emission bandwidth FWHM as wide as 600 nm under 720 nm laser excitation. This is the widest emission bandwidth ever reported for bismuth-doped glass making it suitable for broadband amplifier and tunable laser applications.
A transparent Tb3+ and Yb3+ codoped oxyfluoride glass-ceramic containing CaF2 nanocrystals was prepared through thermal treatment to develop UV laser media. The visible emission spectra of the as-made glass and the glass-ceramic with the excitation of a 374 mW 974 nm diode laser are obtained. The intense emission at 381 nm could be attributed to the change of the ligand field of Tb3+ and Yb3+ ions...
