We experimentally demonstrate a novel low-cost transmitter based on a directly modulated DFB with phase diversity in time. A sensitivity of −38dBm at 2.5Gb/s was achieved for 6.25GHz spaced UDWDM-PON with a simple intradyne receiver having 1 photodiode per polarization.
A differential duobinary codification is proposed for directly phase modulating a 2GHz BW equalized DFB laser. The method was tested with homodyne coherent detection achieving 6.25Gb/s bitrate transmission with −38.5dBm Rx sensitivity at BER=10−3.
A single-fiber full-duplex hybrid TDM/WDM-PON is demonstrated to operate at 2.5/1.25 Gbps rates, with RSOA ONU. It achieves high power budget (GPON compliant) at a distances higher than 20 km, and serves up to 1280 users.
