Recent progress in the design and realization of quantum cascade lasers emitting at THz frequencies will be discussed. High temperature and high power operation are reported and broadband emitters are discussed. THz lasers oscillating in micro-resonators with extremely small modal volumes will be also presented.
The quantum cascade laser (QCL) is a semiconductor laser that employs radiative transitions of an electron between the bounded states in a superlattice (SL) and phenomenon of resonant tunnelling. Here we present a QCL that operates in the terahertz (THz) spectral region at wavelength of 95 mum.The presented device is based on four quantum well design with spatially diagonal radiative transition and...
A compact trace gas sensor based on a thermoelectrically cooled quasi CW quantum cascade laser is reported. Direct absorption of SO/sub 2/ was used for laser characterization. 2f wavelength modulation spectroscopy was applied to ammonia monitoring.
