Applications of packaged and pigtailed (tunable) integrated all-optical Ti:PPLN wavelength converters (AOWC) with different modulation formats (RZ-DQPSK, 16-ary QAM) are reported. The devices take advantage of cascaded second order nonlinear interactions allowing tuning with either one or two control waves via cSHG/DFG or cSFG/DFG. Operation of polarization insensitive AOWCs on a variety of presented...
We implemented a compact integrated non-degenerate source which comprises a periodically poled waveguide with highly reflective dielectric mirror coatings to obtain narrowband photon pairs based on type II parametric down-conversion. Our engineered source exploits clustering in the dispersive cavity to restrict the conversion to a predominantly single mode operation with a narrowband linewidth and...
Ever growing demand for internet data transmission capacity drives the search for innovative optical communications transmission and signal processing techniques. Optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) enables high baud rate data transmission on a single wavelength channel which, combined with advanced modulation formats, can maximize spectral efficiency. Time-to-space conversion is a complementary...
We report the first demonstration of time-to-space conversion of sub-picosecond pulses at 1.55μm in a nonlinear slab waveguide using non-degenerate, collinear SFG. A time window of 46ps and serial-to-parallel demultiplexing factor of 93 were achieved.
Tunable all-optical wavelength conversion (AOWC) of a 40-Gb/s RZ-OOK data signal based on cascaded second-harmonic generation (SHG) and difference-frequency generation (DFG) in a Ti:PPLN waveguide is demonstrated. Error-free performances with negligible power penalty are achieved for the wavelength-converted signal at 1535, 1538, 1541, 1551, 1554, and 1557 nm, respectively.
We report the reversible transfer of photon-photon entanglement, generated by means of spontaneous parametric down-conversion, into entanglement between a photon and a collective atomic excitation in a thulium-doped lithium niobate waveguide cooled to 3 K.
