We present analytical expressions for the complex effective index of single-ring anti-resonant fibers. The expressions are based on a planar reflection model and approximations for core diameters being large compared to the wavelength. The results are in excellent agreement with numerical simulations.
We demonstrate the ability to control the wavelength of third harmonic generated visible light within an exposed-core microstructured optical fiber. This is achieved by coating dielectric nanofilms onto the exposed-core, which shifts the intermodal phase matching position. A shift of up to 30 nm was achieved using a 50 nm thick tantalum oxide coating. This work paves the way for tuning the position...
Recent progress in planar photonics has been achieved by functionalizing integrated photonic devices with nanoscale elements being composed of sophisticated materials. One approach to transfer this concept to optical fibers is to incorporate large-aspect ratio nanowires (NWs) into fiber, which defines a subclass within the area of hybrid optical fiber (HOFs) [1] and has applications in fields such...
Surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) enable extreme device miniaturization via deeply sub-wavelength electromagnetic field confinements [1]. Conventional coupling techniques typically require phase matching or mode-matching, which is challenging at sub-wavelength dimensions. Here, we introduce and experimentally demonstrate a novel near-field hybrid fiber [2, 3] nanoprobe for the efficient excitation...
We present experimental evidence of non-instantaneous solitons within mid-IR supercontinuum spectra in anomalously dispersive liquid-core fibers. Simulations confirm two measured signatures of such states: inhibited broadening and fine spectral fringes.
Solid-core photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) are optical fibers with a central silica core surrounded by a regular array of air holes, that provide guidance [1]. Solid-core PCFs have been well explored for nonlinear applications such as frequency conversion through modulational instability and soliton formation leading to supercontinuum generation [2]. However, PCFs can also be designed to have a central...
