We demonstrate the fabrication of long-period fiber gratings written in six-mode fiber by CO2-laser pulses as a mode converter to realize the mode conversion from LP01 mode to LP11 mode, LP21 mode and LP02 mode successfully with efficiencies of more than 90%, respectively.
We propose the fabrication of double-helix chiral long-period fiber grating by twisting polarization-maintain fiber when the fiber is heated by CO2 laser irradiation. Different with conventional long-period fiber grating, the chiral grating is found to be insensitive to the fiber bending due to its helical waveguide structure.
A chiral long-period grating (CLPG) was fabricated successfully by scanning CO2 laser in a twisted conventional single-mode fiber. The strong mode coupling can be achieved in a short grating length. The sensing characteristics of the CLPGs were investigated experimentally. Compared with the conventional long-period fiber gratings, the CLPGs were found to have the similar temperature and refractive...
We demonstrate the fabrication of the long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) in the thinned cladding fiber by CO2 laser and the characteristics of the gratings is experimentally investigated for the sensor application. The cladding modes are excited in the thinned cladding fiber, which is found to be highly sensitive to the surrounding index changes. A high index sensitivity of 7366.6 nm/refractive index...
We demonstrated the fabrication of long period fiber gratings written in two-mode fiber as mode converter to realize the mode conversion between LP01 mode and LP11 mode with an efficiency of up to 99.9%.
We studied experimentally the bending sensitivity of long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) written by CO2 laser under external tension. Not only higher sensitivity was observed, but also the LPFG was sensitive to the bending direction, which can be attributed to the laser-induced asymmetric index modification across the fiber section.
We demonstrate experimentally that the new resonance dips can be generated during the fabrication of CO2 laser written long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) in a single-mode fiber (SMF) under tension. The dynamic analysis of laser writing process was adopted to study the mechanism of the grating inscription. The new characteristics of grating growth were observed except for the increase of writing efficiency...
