The Infona portal uses cookies, i.e. strings of text saved by a browser on the user's device. Resistive Plate Chambers have been chosen as active elements for the μ and K L detector in the BaBar experiment. This subsystem, now under construction, represents the most extensive use to date of the RPC technology. The design considerations are presented, together with preliminary results on the operating characteristics.
