The exploration of buried deposits under the sea sediment requires high directivity and low attenuation beams. The parametric sub-bottom profiler meets these requirements; moreover, it is comparatively small and can be easily mounted on autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). For this reason, we are developing a new PSBP system for AUVs. This paper presents the recent results of the PSBP system for...

Small AUV “IK-A” equipped with IRSAS was developed for submarine hydrothermal deposits exploration. Observed IRSAS data could acquire the back scatter image and bathymetry. One of the features of the seafloor hydrothermal deposits is the chimney and the mound-like terrain. Back scatter image can distinguish these terrain and other terrains. IRSAS has increased much measurable terrain by switching...
Understanding the mental state of the driver is important in supporting safe driving. We examined miniature eye movements, focusing in particular on microsaccades, which increase when the driver turns his or her attention to a visual target. Standard deviations in miniature eye movements increased after passing a traffic sign when measured using a simple game-style eye movement detecting system.
This paper focuses on developing a NEW Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) equipped with Interferometric Real and Synthetic Aperture Sonar (IRSAS) for the exploration of submarine hydrothermal ore deposits. After the construction, the first sea trial carried out in Feb 2016. From successfully results, we feel certain that new AUV play an important role in surveys of hydrothermal deposits.
We have been researching a method that can induce a driver to drive more safely and more comfortably by grasping the mental state of the driver. For this purpose, we developed a 4K DS system to more realistically create the sense of driving through a landscape. We analyzed the gazing point distribution, oxygen concentration in the brain, pulse rate, skin potential, and the surface temperature of the...

Chromophore-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) was blended with a polycarbonate host and spin cast into films with < 1.5 dB/cm loss at 1550 nm. The films were poled to a stable d33 of 35 pm/V.
