The wear resistance of a bearing steel was investigated using laser surface remelting cooled by water. The weight loss was reduced by over 50% with an overall hardness of ∼1150 HV. An ultrafine microstructure along with nanocarbide was acquired, which generated an accumulative contribution of grain refinement, precipitation strengthening, dislocation strengthening and a mixed microstructure.
