In this paper, we will demonstrate the possibility of opening a new telecommunications transmission window around the 2 µm wavelength, in order to exploit the potential low loss of hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers, with the benefits of significantly lower non-linearity and latency. We will show recent efforts developing a dense wavelength division multiplexing testbed at this waveband, with 100...
A dispersion map that meets the conflicting needs of coherent and direct detection transmission is presented. Performance improvements over a conventional map are verified for coherent transmission by experiments and simulations.
We transmit 198×100G pre-filtered PDM-RZ-QPSK channels with 400% spectral efficiency over 6,860 km. We also show that 100G coherent nonlinear performance scales differently with distance on uncompensated dispersion maps than expected from direct-detection transmission.
Experimental observation of different types of vector solitons such as the bright-bright, dark-dark, and dark-bright vector soliton in single mode fiber lasers is reported. Experimental techniques for observing each of the vector solitons are explained. Special features of the vector solitons in fiber lasers are numerically simulated and compared with the experiments.
