H.264/AVC intra encoder uses nine prediction modes in 4×4 and 8×8 block unit to reduce the spatial redundancies. Too many intra modes not only increase the encoder complexity but also increase the number of overhead bits. In order to reduce the number of overhead bits and computational cost, an intra mode bit rate reduction (BRR) method is proposed in this paper. In the proposed method, the numbers...
A little attention has been given to the use of recursive self organizing map (SOM) for human action recognition in the past years. This paper introduces an action recognition framework using the recursive SOM, a temporal extension of SOM that learns adapted representations of temporal context associated with a time series. We demonstrate the effectiveness of recursive SOM for data clustering, dimensionality...
This paper presents a system level design flow which enables rapid design space exploration and a verification tool to assist a designer to identify an FPGA-based MPSoC for stream-oriented application. The case study, JPEG encoding, illustrates how the tool exploits the task-level parallelism and produces a suitable architectural design, binding and scheduling algorithm while satisfying physical constraints.
In this paper, we investigate the system performance on decode and forward based bi-directional relaying based on symbol-wise XOR operation. This technique gives more freedom of selecting modulation and coding scheme at relay station, and significantly relaxes its transmission bottom neck. However, the performance degradation occurs when the modulation orders of both links differ from each other....
One of the new features in the H.264/AVC encoder is the use of Lagrangian rate-distortion optimization (RDO) method during mode decision at the macroblock level. The RDO technique has been employed in H.264/AVC for intra prediction mode selection to achieve better coding efficiency. But the computation complexity of mode decision algorithm is extremely high. To reduce the complexity of mode decision,...
