We experimentally and theoretically study coupled semiconductor ring lasers. We report on the destabilization of unidirectional operation for large coupling strengths and the appearance of a coupling-induced bidirectional state, both undesirable for optical memory operation.
An integrated monolithic device where two DFB lasers are phase-locked via mutual injection, assisted by a Four-Wave-Mixing process that takes place in an auxiliary DFB, generates a spectrally pure tunable mm-wave signal.
The potential of coupled resonator optical waveguides (CROWs) as integrated reconfigurable delay lines has been recently demonstrated in a glass-based device by continuously controlling the delay of optical data streams over several bit lengths. Although the exploitation of a medium index contrast glass waveguide leads to low insertion losses, allowing large absolute delays, it poses a hard limit...
We present single and coupled-microcavity structures linked by first order photonic wire Bragg grating reflectors. Measurements show a strong resonance peak for a single microcavity and simulation of three coupled microcavities shows localised cavity modes
