We show numerically and experimentally the effectiveness of the coupling level-optimized MCF for extending the wavelength range with a low spatial mode dispersion coefficient, which enables us to suppress MIMO-DSP for broadband WDM signals.
An asymmetric parallel waveguide realizes low-loss mode conversion and MUX/DEMUX simultaneously over a wide wavelength range. MDM and WDM transmission is achieved with a low insertion loss of <1.6dB for LP01 and LP11 modes.
We propose photonic crystal fiber with W-shaped effective index profile to achieve the largest Aeff for telecommunication use. We realized a 220-μm2 Aeff with a cut-off wavelength and bending loss compatible with ITU-T recommendation G.655.
