We realized a PLC-type coupler with low signal and pump losses of less than 2 dB, and we evaluated the signal OSNR for both the LP01 and LP11 modes after a 1000 km transmission with our 2-mode EDFA.
We propose a 2-LP-mode erbium-doped fiber amplifier (EDFA) with a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) type coupler and a long-period grating (LPG) for controlling mode dependent gain (MDG). We successfully fabricated a PLC that combines C-band light and 980-nm pump light with a low insertion loss of less than 1.8 dB for a signal over the C-band, and less than 1.5 dB for a 980-nm pump light. Finally, we...
We describe the mode-division multiplexing(MDM) transmission using a conventional fiber coupler with negligible modal crosstalk. A 2×10Gbps MDM transmission was achieved over a 10km two-mode fiber without any signal processing.
