Using a coherent optical demodulation technique, we have independently measured the AM and PM resulting from current modulation at GHz rates of an I.L. VCSEL at 1.55 µm. The variation of the depth of AM and PM are measured as function of RF modulation frequency and power. Two regimes of modulation for the I.L. We independently measure the optical phase and amplitude modulation characteristics of an injection-locked VCSEL for the first time at GHz rates, using a coherent optical demodulation scheme, giving us insight into two different phase modulation regimes.
We demonstrate pulse-shaping at reconfiguration rates at half the repetition rate of the laser. Injection-locked VCSELs independently modulate four optical comb lines at frequencies up to 3.125 GHz, changing the pulse shape from pulse-to-pulse.
