Small-volume and high quality (Q) factor photonic crystal cavities have been known to be a good vehicle for low threshold lasers, high speed modulators, single photon sources and cavity quantum electrodynamics. Recently one-dimensional (1-D) high-Q/V PhC nanobeam cavity was proposed and the compactness and the lightness of the 1-D nanobeam cavity have attracted researchers working on cavity optomechanics...
Spatially reconfigurable Gaussian-shaped photonic well is created by placing a curved tapered fiber onto a photonic crystal waveguide. For sub-nanometer spectral tuning, electron-beam-induced nano-dots are introduced in high-Q photonic crystal resonators.
Experimental characteristics high-Q single-cell photonic crystal laser modes are discussed. Especially the resonant mode with a central node, where the introduction of a small electrical wire at the center of the resonator does not produce appreciable optical losses, is investigated.
