This paper is intended to introduce the project Energy4Growing that aims at studying and setting up a hybrid micro-grid to supply power to a school in rural Tanzania. It describes the results of the early project actions which concerned in: (i) analysing the actual school power supply system through locally metered data; (ii) developing the first step of a new electro-mechanical model which addresses...
The paper presents simulated and experimental results concerning some rectifying solutions used as AC/DC stage in grid connected Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECSs), employing direct drive, axial flux, modular Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSGs). The solutions are based on three-phase diode bridge rectifiers, configured to give 6-pulse and 12-pulse rectifiers.
The paper analyses and compares some solutions of AC/DC converter stages in grid connected Wind Energy Conversion Systems (WECSs), using modular Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (PMSGs). The converter dispositions here analyzed are based on 3-phase diode bridge rectifiers, and consider also the possibility of a commutation in winding connections.
Some converter configurations for wind energy systems are proposed. The conversion structures include capacitor loaded diode bridges directly feeding a grid side inverter. Because of the great variation of the PM generator voltage, due to the wide speed range, a winding commutation is adopted between parallel and series connection, at low speeds. Various features are analyzed, concerning converter...
Some design and operation aspects of PM synchronous machines, employing armature windings with concentrated coils wound around the stator teeth, are presented; the e.m.f. control is based on the variation of the windings flux linkage, obtained by modifying the stator (or rotor) configuration. Thanks to the high number of poles and the excellent waveform quality, even with deep field weakening, these...
