We propose and experimentally demonstrate a downlink 60-GHz millimeter-wave radio-over-fiber fronthaul incorporating coordinated multipoint (CoMP) transmission scheme. CoMP function is implemented in the centralized baseband unit to obtain the transmission diversity. Space-time diversity gain is exploited to improve the data rate of cell-edge users as well as the coverage of 60-GHz small cells. To...
In this paper, we review our recent work in the area of 60 GHz radio-over-fiber fronthaul links. We compared the different transport schemes incorporating modified double-sideband suppressed carrier (DSB-SC) and optical single sideband with carrier (OSSB) modulation formats to cater for the transport of 60 GHz wireless signals. Our results show that OSSB links exhibits better receiver sensitivity...
Mixed integer linear programs for minimum cost FiWi deployment and survivability of the resultant network under nodes failure are formulated and evaluated. Number of potential installation sites determines the network's feasibility and survivability.
We propose passive interfaces for integrated optical-wireless access networks incorporating optical-tandem-single-sideband (OTSSB) modulation scheme. The performance of the interfaces is evaluated experimentally with OTSSB and VCSEL for simultaneous transport of wired and wireless signals.
We investigate the impact of crosstalk between different optical transport schemes for simultaneous delivery of wired and wireless signals in an optical-wireless integrated access network. Our results show that optical tandem single sideband with optical filtering has the best crosstalk performance while the crosstalk in directly modulated VCSEL has to be carefully managed in order to realize a potentially...
•Merging of photonic and radio technologies - Fiber-radio as a last mile solution - Optical networking enables it to be linked to broadband backbone network • Technologies - Overcome impairments in analog photonic links - MUX/DEMUX, OADM for WDM fiber-wireless networks - Cost-effective uplink transport - Opto-electronic interfaces - Integration of baseband wired line transport with radio transport...
We have investigated the impact of fiber chromatic dispersion on the performance of OSSB+C and OCS for the transport of a 64 GHz RF carrier with 2.5 Gb/s data. The performance of OCS is limited by bit walk-off which limits the maximum transmission distance to <35 km while OSSB+C is limited by link budget and phase decorrelation which limits the transmission distance to 95 km.
