We report on the experimental demonstration of a source of hybrid entanglement pairs between two different degrees of freedom, a 1550 nm time-bin qubit and an 810 nm polarization qubit. The hybrid entanglement source is constructed of a non-degenerate photon pair source and a format transformer from time encoding to polarization encoding. This entanglement photon source will provide a fiber- space...
Since 2006, ground-to-satellite laser communication experiments have been successfully performed using intensity modulation/direct detection (IMDD) between the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) optical ground station located in Tokyo and a low earth orbit (LEO) satellite. With the advent of coherent binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) receivers in orbit by a German...
Superconducting nanowire single-photon detectors (SNSPDs or SSPD) are highly promising devices in the growing field of quantum information and communications technology. We have developed a practical SSPD system with our superconducting thin films and devices fabrication, optical coupling packaging, and cryogenic technology. The SSPD system consists of six-channel SSPD devices and a compact Gifford-McMahon...
Recent progress in quantum key distribution (QKD), regarding high-speed and long-distance experiments and field trials are briefly reviewed. We also introduce our research on the randomness of quantum key. We have confirmed a quantum key, as a crypto key, assures the required randomness with some dynamic compensation.
The world's fastest BB84 QKD through a 97-km installed fiber was demonstrated using PLC-based interferometers, SSPDs and WDM synchronization. By suppressing nonlinear crosstalk induced by the multiplexed clock, QBER of 2.8% was obtained after 97-km transmission.
We report an entanglement-based BBM92 quantum key distribution experiment using superconducting single photon detectors. A 16-kbit sifted key with a quantum bit error rate of 6.9 % was successfully generated after 100 km fiber transmission.
