Micro-luminescence and micro-Raman mapping has been performed on ultrafast laser inscribed channel Yb:KGd(WO4)2 and Yb:KY(WO4)2 waveguides. Correlation can be seen between guiding regions and shifts in micro-luminescence and micro-Raman peaks when compared to the bulk.
This paper reports on a passively mode-locked Er3+,Yb3+:YAl3(BO3)4 (Er,Yb:YAB) laser that generates 3.8 ps-pulses at 1530 nm with an average power up to 270 mW. This is the first passively mode-locked Er /Yb co-doped laser based on a crystalline gain medium. The optimisation of the saturable absorber and laser-gain parameters such as modulation depth, intracavity fluence and dispersion will lead to...
We report on the generation of femtosecond pulses in the 1-μm and 1.3-μm spectral regions from Yb:KYW and Cr:forsterite lasers, respectively, where InAs/InGaAs quantum dot based saturable absorber mirrors (QD-SAMs) have been utilised. For the experimental observations reported here, cw Yb:KYW and Cr:forsterite lasers pumped by a tapered 980nm laser diode and a Nd:YVO4 laser at 1064nm, respectively,...
Efficient passive mode locking of a diode-pumped Yb3+:KY(WO4)2 laser using a quantum-dot saturable absorber is demonstrated. Pulses of 114 fs centered around 1040 nm were generated with an average output power of 0.5 W.
We demonstrate stable mode locking in a Yb:KYW laser by using a quantum-dot saturable absorber structure with p-n-junction. A reduction in the output pulse duration was measured when a reverse bias was applied to SESAM.
