The mid-infrared is of great interest for a huge range of applications such as medical and environment sensors, security, defense and astronomy. I will give a broad overview of the different activities recently launched in INL Lyon, in close collaboration with several French and Australian institutions, under the umbrella of “Mid-IR integrated photonics” with a particular focus on novel integrated...
The mid infrared (mid-IR, wavelength range between 2 and 10 μm) is of great interest for a huge range of applications such as medical and environment sensors, security, defense and astronomy.
We have fabricated nanowires from Ge11.5As24Se64.5 glass. The loss of nanowire was measured to be 2.6dB/cm for fundamental TM mode. The nonlinear coefficient (γ) was determined to be ≈136±7W-1m-1 at 1550nm. Supercontinuum (SC) was produced in an 18mm long nanowire.
We describe a fabrication process for and the characterization of submicrometer-thick As2S3 waveguides. Poly(methylmethacrylate) and bottom antireflective coating were employed as thin protective layers prior to photoresist patterning in order to prevent the attack of the As2S3 film by an alkaline developer. Propagation losses of ~0.2 and 0.6 dB/cm were measured for 4- and 2-??m-wide waveguides fabricated...
Stoichiometric low loss Tellurium dioxide, TeO2, films have been produced by reactive magnetron RF sputtering. Long rib waveguides with very low loss are fabricated using reactive ion etching techniques. As-deposited TeO2 films and waveguides with propagation loss around or below 0.1 dB/cm at 1550 nm have been achieved.
