We have investigated optical filtering-effects when a spectrally-sliced ASE light is injected to a gain-saturated R-SOA. The resulting distortion in the output optical spectrum from an optical pass-band shape of AWG could significantly affect the transmission quality of the WDM-PON.
Pump-controlled L-band EDFAs in feed-forward scheme give significant transients due to gain difference on wavelength of input signal when only a few channels are left. The fiber-Bragg-grating-added pump-controlled L-band EDFA eliminates the wavelength-dependent transients.
A gain clamped SOA combined with a distributed Raman fiber amplifier has a gain of 19.6 dB and a noise figure of 2.9 dB. Sixteen channels of 10 Gb/s signals are successfully transmitted over 5 spans of 80 km even under dynamic add-drop situations.
