Using pulsed neutron imaging, the distributions of absolute values of nuclide densities and temperatures of the sample can be estimated. However, the images obtained by the pulsed neutron imaging have a low spatial resolution because of the performance limitations of the detector. On the other hand, X-ray radiograms have higher spatial resolution compared with the neutron images. To obtain higher-resolution...
The continuous environmental radiation monitoring is very important after Fukushima accident especially for the evaluation of the decontamination. A portable gamma camera system is designed and fabricated with a compact digital front-end detector. A front-end detector consists of an 12 × 12 GAGG-APD (pixel size = 2 × 2 × 5 mm3) array combined with 144 channel Time over Threshold based ASIC. All the...
The principle of a superconducting terahertz detector is verified. We have detected terahertz radiation based on the Cooper-pair breaking process, and confirmed that the sensitivity has a sharp increase around 0.7 THz, a value that is in agreement with the gap frequency of the superconducting Nb.
We designed a new terahertz detector using a superconducting tunnel junction. The detector is composed of a small junction (~2 mum in diameter) coupled to a thin superconductor film with a large absorbing area (~200 mum square). The noise equivalent power (NEP) of the optimized detector is expected to be in the order of 10-18 W/radicHz.
We demonstrated terahertz imaging using a two-dimensional array detector with 5times5 elements based on superconducting tunnel junctions. Real-time 25-pixel imaging at 0.65 THz was successfully performed. The array detector also allowed the shortening of the total acquisition time for larger images, made up of pixel blocks.
Precise measurement of neutron beta decay tests predictions of the Standard Model of electroweak interaction. The coefficient a of the antineutrino/electron angular correlation is determined by measuring the energy spectrum of the recoil protons generated in the neutron beta decay. A proton spectrometer required for this measurement demands high detection efficiency, high energy resolution and a large...
