The process described involved the pulversiation of Costello coal to a grain size of 1.00-1.18 mm and its mixing with ZnCl 2 and water. The resulting mixture was gradually heated to its carbonization temperature at 20°/min. The resulting product was rinsed with HCl to obtain an activated carbon. The activated carbon had surface area of 1400 m 2 /g.
Activated carbon was prepared from Canadian coal by chemical activation with ZnCl 2 and NaOH. The influences of preparation conditions on pore structure of activated carbon was investigated.
