In the modern society, ultra high-rise buildings gradually prevails in large cities, but they are always suffering severe losses in fire, terrorist attacks and other emergencies so that the problem of ultra high-rise building evacuation has become a new hot spot area. In this paper, by the simulation software AnyLogic, which is based on the social force model, an evacuation process in the stairwell...
Crystalline silicon (c-Si) thin film is extremely important for low-cost, high performance Si-based devices, such as thin-film transistors and solar cells. We demonstrate that microwave irradiation onto amorphous silicon (a-Si) film on glass substrate with carbon overcoat is able to induce fast crystallization at a short annealing time, less than 300 s, 300 watt. X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy...
A multi-band (bands I, II, V, VIII [option]) single-chip RFIC has been implemented in 0.18 mum SiGe BiCMOS process for WCDMA/HSDPA applications. The direct-conversion receiver achieves competitive system performance: -110.5dBm sensitivity, 20 dB and 12 dB blocking margin for ACS case 1 and case 2, respectively, and excellent in-band blocking margins. The direct-modulation transmitter achieves more...
A mode-locking mechanism by active gain modulation is studied numerically and experimentally. The parameter window for the emission of stable pulse trains was found. Pulses as short as 3 ps (~0.5 pJ) were characterized by second-order autocorrelation.
Fractal image compression is promising both theoretically and practically. The encoding speed of the traditional full search method is a key factor rendering the fractal image compression unsuitable for real-time application. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the comprehensive coverage of the principles and techniques of fractal image compression. In this paper, the novel image...
High sensitive ozone sensors working at room temperature were demonstrated based on In2O3 nanoparticles, which were deposited by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD). The resistance of the In2O3 particle containing layer can be tuned over five orders of magnitude after ultraviolet light illumination and oxidation by ozone containing gases. To investigate the light induced effect on In2O...
Ultrafast upconversion is employed to investigate pulse propagation in quantum cascade lasers. The authors have observed advances of the pulse peak to early times, pulse re-shaping, and evidence of a coherent contribution to pulse propagation.
In2O3(001) thin films were grown on (0001) sapphire by metal-organic chemical vapor deposition. Highly textured ln2O3 films were tested as ozone sensors based on the photoreduction and oxidation effects. The sensors were found to have the largest sensitivity at room temperature. With such ln2O3 based sensors, the ozone concentrations in a wide range from 15 ppb up to 92 ppm were measured.
We investigate the dynamics of quantum cascade lasers and find that spatial hole burning and the Risken-Nummedal-Graham-Haken (RNGH) instability are the main causes for multimode operation in these semiconductor lasers.
The existing islanding detection techniques are generally classified into passive and active categories. Nevertheless, it has been demonstrated that "non-detection zones" (NDZ) still exist for some specific load impedances. A new algorithm using differential voltage correlation (DVC) method is hence proposed in this paper to alleviate this problem. To verify the proposed approach for islanding...
Normal and cancerous tissues have distinct autofluorescence lifetime because of their biophysical and biochemical differences. Protoporphyrin IX (PplX) is a useful fluorophore, which generally accumulates more in cancerous cells than in normal cells due to heme synthesis pathway, is often employed in photodynamic detection and therapy. Under 410nm excitation, the main emission peak of PplX is at 630nm...
Biopsy is the main diagnosis method for oral cancer, which is the fifth most prevalent cancer in male population in Taiwan. In order to increase the accuracy of diagnosis, it is required to reveal the distribution of malignancy prior to biopsy. Based on this purpose, we developed the fluorescent image system associated with color image fusion algorithm to indicate the cancer-susceptible area in the...
Summary form only given. The advantages of using the complex coupled distributed feedback (DFB) laser structure are mainly its high single-mode yield and good selectivity, among others. The lasers described here were grown by MOCVD with a multiple quantum well (MQW) active region consisting of six compressively strained InGaAsP quantum wells. After MOCVD regrowth, both 2 /spl mu/m-wide self-aligned...
