A helical-type fusion facility uses a large-scale superconducting DC magnet. To maintain the coil current of this magnet during steady-state operation, a large output current supplied by a very-low-voltage power supply is necessary. For this purpose, a DC power supply using a mechanical contact as a switching device was designed, and a small model of the contact was tested.
Superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) will be one of the feasible options for daily load leveling and power stabilization. Since the stored energy of SMES is proportional to the square of current, the rated current for superconducting coils will be selected to at least over 10 kA. Thyristor converters are very promising as a large current power conditioning system for high field magnets....
In this paper, the synchronous AC/DC converter using super junction type power-MOSFET is proposed, and its electrical characteristics are discussed with experimental data. Related to further application of the advanced power-MOSFET for high current operation of large capacity synchronous AC/DC converter, the more reduction of on-state resistance is also studied with cooling down power-MOSFET device...
