The waveguide-type optical polarisation splitter which uses the large birefringence of the Langmuir-Blodgett cladding layer is proposed. Characteristics of the polarisation splitter analysed by the beam propagation method are reported.<<ETX>>
A pin photodiode (PD) and a hybrid circuit module are developed for 10 Gbit/s optical transmission. The bandwidth is increased by reducing the pin PD capacitance, using face-down bonding, and suppressing resonance in the power supply circuit. The bandwidth is 11 GHz and the sensitivity is -17.3 dBm (bit error rate=10/sup -9/, bit rate=10 Gbit/s).<<ETX>>
