In this paper, we suggest the use of a cold plasma as tunable material inside a microstrip resonant cavity. Plasma dielectric constant can indeed be moved to values below 1 to tune its resonant frequency. DC plasma analysis were conducted and integrated into classic electromagnetic solvers to investigate tuning abilities. Numerical simulations are consistent with experimental results and make this...
The use of low pressure non-equilibrium plasma as epsilon negative medium for a zero-order spherical antenna resonator is considered. Static behaviour of the resonance for a non-homogeneous plasma is investigated under quasi-static assumption and discrete radial description of the plasma. Analytical and numerical results are consistent and show that the implementation of such a plasma-based antenna...
The use of micro-hollow cathode sustained discharges (MCSD) as power-induced limiter elements in microstrip devices is proposed to protect receivers against high-power microwave (HPM) threats. The basic principle of the MCSD and its integration into a microstrip circuit are exposed. The powerlimiting capability of such a solution has been experimentally assessed for three microstrip circuits, namely...
The use of a plasma microdischarge as a reconfig-urable element for a frequency tunable microstrip antenna is theoretically and numerically investigated.
This paper presents an experimental study of the RF/microplasma interaction by the use of an inverted microstrip line. Microplasma discharges present physical characteristics that may be interesting for reconfigurable RF components. A measurement setup that consists of a 50 Ω inverted microstrip line with a single microplasma discharge placed in its center is proposed to measure the RF/microplasma...
This paper presents the design of a compact dual-polarized VHF microstrip antenna for modern small satellites. It consists of a slot-loaded annular-ring microstrip antenna printed on a light substrate to reduce its mass. A simple matching circuit is proposed to match the high input impedance of this antenna while enabling the generation of a dual linear-polarization. The size of the proposed design...
The performance of the Space Alternating Generalized Expectation Maximisation (SAGE) algorithm for multipath mitigation is assessed in this paper. Numerical simulations have already proven the potential of SAGE in navigation context, but practical aspects of the implementation of such a technique in a GNSS receiver are the topic for further investigation. In this paper, we will present the first results...
Two small short-circuited antennas of λ0/11 and λ0/8 have been designed and measured. Their respective bandwidths of 120 MHz (2.3 %) and 190 MHz (3.6 %) make them suitable for 4G telephony applications. An array of two miniature antennas has also been built. Its performances show that it is appropriate for MIMO applications.
