In this Letter, the preliminary study on the progression of osteoporosis using ultra wide band radar technique suggesting two different cases, (1) For various bone thickness and (2) For different effective permittivity is presented. To monitor the progression of osteoporosis, resistively loaded dipole antenna was designed and used as a sensor. For use in targets representing intermediate stages of...
The study of biomechanics of isolated cardiomyocytes can allow us to understand the cardiac function and disease development in the absence of viscoelastic or contractile properties of the surrounding tissue. However, popular techniques such as micropipettes and carbon fibre-based measurements require serial, single-cell measurements and limit the amount of data passing through a system or process...
Linear discriminant analysis (LDA) and support vector machines (SVM) are used to classify reconstructed absorption coefficient distributions of the proximal interphalangeal joints as affected or not affected by rheumatoid arthritis. The performance of each classification method is quantified using the leave-n-out method. LDA is shown to yield high sensitivities, while SVM yields high specificities.
Oscillometric method is the method for the blood pressure measurement using mean arterial pressure (MAP). In the conventional method, the cuff pressure at the largest pulse is determined as MAP. However, it is difficult to find the largest oscillometric pulse from patients who have the cardiovascular disease or the elder subjects. Therefore, we studied a new method to determine the MAP by analyzing...
Ultrasound strain imaging has been proposed to quantitatively assess myocardial contractility. Cross-correlation based 2D speckle tracking (ST) and auto-correlation based Doppler tissue imaging (DTI) are competitive ultrasound techniques for this application. Unlike ST, DTI is limited by angle dependency and suffers from low signal-to-noise ratio because a high pulse repetition frequency (PRF) is...
In order to provide optimum signal-to-noise ratios depending on the shielding conditions, we fabricated several multichannel magnetocardiogram systems with different types of pickup coils, magnetometer, first-order gradiometers and second-order gradiometers. The magnetocardiogram (MCG) systems were operated inside different magnetically shielded rooms, and signal-to-noise ratios were compared. The...
Obesity and its many complications potentially can collapse most medical plans, unless attempts at prevention and therapy become more effective and widespread. An important incentive for providing effective treatment is proper reimbursement. We present here an evaluation of the feasibility, constrains and requirements for comparative cost-effectiveness evaluation of weight loss intervention from the...
