For the first time, a surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator based on the AlN/6H-SiC multilayer structure is designed and fabricated. Firstly, we have succeeded in solving the problem of obtaining AlN (002) on 6H-SiC substrate. The results show that highly c-axis-oriented AlN thin films are obtained, with that the diffraction peak of AlN is 36.121° and the lowest full width at half maximum (FWHM) value...
This paper reports a MEMS relay with high reliability, in which van der Waals forces will be used, for the first time, to significantly suppress the vacuum contact bouncing. The dynamic analysis has been carried out by modeling the microcantilever as a multi-segment beam. In the model, van der Waals forces as an adhesive force replace air damping to represent the suppression term. In combination with...
This paper presents a power MEMS relay array with numerous improvements in current-carrying capacity, which adopts silicon-on-insulator (SOI) anodic bonding technology to significantly improve the reliability and consistency of the relay matrix. The relay array is designed as a matrix of microcantilevers connected in parallel to allocate high power to individual relays. This method allows the relay...
Currentprobes for proteases detection are susceptible tophotobleachingandinefficientin cell penetration. Also it is not applicable for multiplexed detection. Anovel probe based on quantum dot (QD), nanogold, substrate peptide and EGF is studied as the sensor for intracellular proteases detection. Due to the less fluorescence overlapping and the excellent propertiesagainst photobleaching of QDs, the...
This paper reports measuring contractility of neonatal rat ventricular myocytes (NRVM) using a novel cell force sensor, namely, a double-sided micropillar array (DMA) developed for both single cell force measurements using conventional microscopy as well as high-throughput cell force mapping based on the optical moiré effect. The contraction force map of NRVM cultured on DMA was acquired with nanonewton...
As novel quantum fluorescent materials, QDs have longer term photo-stability, narrower emission range, stronger intensity, and broader UV excitation spectra than that of normal fluorescent materials. Due to quantum dots' (QD) quantum scale effect, QDs of different sizes can emit fluorescence of different colors with the same excitation light, making them suitable bio-probes in multiplexed detection,...
We present a MEMS torsional resonance magnetometer based on Lorentz force, which consists of torsional structures, torsional beams, metal plates, a coil, and a glass substrate. The Lorentz force, introduced by the interaction of a current in the MEMS coil and an external horizontal magnetic field, leading to the displacement of the torsional structure, which can be detected by two sensing capacitors...
The broadband scattering characteristics of a typical antenna array layout with different electrical dimensions have been analysed in the paper. The scattering characteristics of built models which including Antenna mode scattering, structural mode scattering and Bragg lobes are studied with physical optics (PO) method in the case of Co-polarization and cross-polarization. Additionally, the reason...
Electromagnetic simulation software (EMSS) has many advantages such as friendly interface, modeling convenience and reliable simulation results. However, they are inadequate in optimization design. Genetic algorithm (GA) optimizers are robust, stochastic search methods. They are particularly effective to find an approximate global maximum/minimum in a high-dimension, multimodal function domain in...
Some geophysical and geotechnical scientists would wish to non-invasively measure the electromagnetic properties of soils using inexpensive, even disposable, technology. They may even wish to develop inexpensive and compact low-power GPR equipment for such uses as teaching and mitigation of construction risks during excavation. To this end, a heuristic comparison is made between a commercial Vector...
For a compact millimeter wave imaging system it is very important to design every component into small size, for the components in a millimeter wave system are usually much larger than those in an optical imaging system due to relatively long wave lengths. In this paper, we suggest a kind of binary diffractive lens (BDL) designed using double negative materials (DNG) as the objective lens for a millimeter...
In this paper, a simple and automatic method for smoothing gamma-ray spectra is derived. This method is based on B-spline basis functions with least squares fitting used to reduce the influence of statistical fluctuations. The results show that this method is better than traditional method with a more complete reduction of statistical fluctuation.
