A 4 times 4 integrated SOA switch performs routeing and wavelength-conversion without additional active components. 0.6 dB penalty is achieved for 5 Gb/s wavelength-conversion, with 7 Gb/s error-free operation in this un-optimised device.
The robustness of an integrated 2times2 quantum-dot switch is investigated for low penalty operation. Near penalty free operation of <0.2 dB is demonstrated for IPDR of over 8 dB, highlighting its potential for systems applications.
We report a study of the cascadability of QD-SOAs in a recirculating loop, showing that it is possible to cascade 15 SOAs before error free operation is lost. Furthermore, a monolithically integrated QD-SOA based add-drop switch is reported which exhibits very low (<0.1dB) path dependent switching power penalty
We demonstrate for the first time the low penalty cascaded performance of a 1.3mum QD SOA. Eleven passes are feasible for 10Gb/s data while maintaining a Q-factor exceeding 6 for filter-free operation.
