We fabricate, and characterize 36 designs of phase-shifted distributed-feedback lasers, varying κL products and shift lengths, in good agreement with theoretical calculations on the hybrid silicon platform.
We demonstrate a chaotic microcavity laser which not only produces unidirectional emission but also has a quality factor of 22000. The output beam has a divergence angle less than 40 degree for all lasing modes.
We observe dynamical localization in semiconductor microdisks with rough boundary. Scattering effect is strongly suppressed by dynamical Anderson localization. Near-field images of laser emission reveal that the lasing mode is localized near the disk edge
Ultraviolet microdisks lasers are fabricated on silicon substrates, with a thin layer of zinc oxide grown on top of silica disk. Under optical pumping, lasing occurs in the whispering gallery modes at room temperature.
