In this paper we propose a fundamental obstacle avoidance system for a humanoid with an alternative function of human eyes using the object recognition technique. The humanoid is to recognize an obstacle through the image taken by a small pinhole camera mounted on it so as to search for a possible route to walk along by avoiding any obstacles.
