This review extensively covers information on chemiluminescence-detection systems for five reactive oxygen species, including superoxide radical, singlet oxygen, hydroxyl radical, hydrogen peroxide and peroxynitrite. We evaluate in detail the current state and the limitations of different chemiluminescence systems. We give some pointers to the likely directions of future developments and prospects.
Peroxynitrous acid (ONOOH) was formed by the on-line rapid reaction of acidified hydrogen peroxide with nitrite in a simple flow system. A weak chemiluminescent (CL) signal was observed due to the production of singlet oxygen ( 1 O 2 ) when ONOOH reacted with NaOH, whereas the replacement of NaOH by Na 2 CO 3 markedly enhanced the CL intensity. The predominant CL-enhanced...
Peroxynitrous acid (ONOOH) was produced by the on-line reaction of acidified hydrogen peroxide with nitrite in a flow system, and peroxynitrite (ONOO − ) was generated from ONOOH in NaOH solution. A weak chemiluminescent (CL) emission was observed due to the production of singlet oxygen (O21) during the decomposition of ONOO − . Bilirubin and its conjugate were found to enhance the...
