We model soft x-ray high harmonic generation and propagation driven by mid-infrared lasers. We find that multi-cycle laser pulses are ideal for generating shorter bright isolated attosecond pulses via time-gated phase-matching in high-density extended media.
kJ-class DPSSL systems with multi-Hz repetition rate for IFE and other laser-plasma based applications require an amplifier architecture with high efficiency and high gain. We present a concept based on cryogenically cooled ceramic Yb:YAG.
We present recent amplification results for DiPOLE, a cryogenic gas cooled multi-slab Yb:YAG amplifier, demonstrating efficient operation with pulse energies of 10.1 J at 1 Hz and 6.4 J at 10 Hz.
Using the upgraded Vulcan Petawatt laser at 3/spl times/10/sup 20/ Wcm/sup -2/ intensities, target interactions and acceleration in a gas jet were studied. Electron spectra with energies up to 240 MeV were detected. Indications of a new acceleration regime, which results in a nonMaxwellian distribution were observed.
