Low complexity SPM compensation is experimentally demonstrated in WDM transmission over inhomogeneous dispersion-managed links with and without Raman amplification. Significant performance increase can be achieved with the longest reported backward-propagation step-size of 530 km.
We study a reduced-complexity backpropagation scheme that models a transmission link by an equivalent dispersion map that can be solved with fewer steps. Performance versus complexity is compared for two dispersion management scenarios.
