This paper presents two millimeter wave PAs realized in a 130 nm CMOS process. The power amplifier adopts transformer and transmission line matching topology which achieves small area and broadband. One power amplifier focus on low power and the other focus on broadband. The low-power power amplifier operates from 1.2 V supply with 10 dB gain at 62 GHz, and dissipates 58 mW DC power. Reverse isolation...
In this paper, we report on the development of a prototype of 500W Ka-Band Helix TWTs. Based on the length and frequency of start oscillation calculated, a phase velocity taper is designed to suppress backward-wave oscillation and improve electronic efficiency of the TWT. The testing results show that this device is capable to deliver more than 500W (pulsed) power with a gain of 39dB over a bandwidth...
A four channels Ka-band multi-in-multi-out (MIMO) integrated TWT was designed based on previous three channels Ku-band integrated TWT. This device integrates four helices in one periodical permanent magnet (PPM) system. Over 50W output power could be achieved for each channel with overall efficiency higher than 40%.
We propose new support rod material in helix TWTs to improve the heat dissipation performance of the tubes, which is the cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) crystal with the second highest thermal conductivity and relatively low dielectric constant. The high frequency characteristics and the beam-wave interaction of helix slow wave structure with CBN and BeO support rods are simulated and analyzed, respectively...
In order to obtain the temperature distribution along inner helix of working TWTs, fiber Bragg grating array (FBGA) can be considered to be used in testing the temperature. Two testing methods based on FBGA embedded on/in support rod helix structure are proposed. The influence of the FBGA on beam-wave interaction is analyzed through CST. The results show that the structure with FBGA embedded in support...
