We investigate size-quantized electron states in a film (quantum well) with a variable band gap, based on compounds of Pb 1−x Sn x Se type. It is shown that an asymmetric modulation of the gap width in the direction of the growth of the film generally leads to spin-splitting of electron subbands. We discuss the influence of surface properties on the magnitude of the electron's spontaneous...
We examine new effects arising from the collision of two Fano dipoles formed in the transmission of an Aharonov–Bohm ring with strongly-coupled quantum dots. A new quasi-particle is formed, which behaves as a coupled object called a Fano-quadrupole, giving new possibilities for controlling the transmission as a function of flux.
