We demonstrate that surface-emitting second-harmonic generation is an effective technique for evaluating domains of periodically-poled lithium niobate waveguide: domain period, linear taper, and poling depth. Such a method reaches nanoscale spatial resolution of 0.5 nm.
We show that waveguides made of GaN/AlGaN heterostructures can be used for efficient parametric up and down conversion under transverse geometry. The conversion efficiency for generation of coherent ultraviolet radiation reaches 1%.
We have observed frequency upconversion of the incoming photons within the communication band to a visible band in a gallium phosphide crystal. Such a crystal is capable of reaching the single-photon detection level.
By mixing three optical frequencies generated by an optical parametric oscillator under a novel configuration based in nonlinear crystals, multiple THz frequencies are efficiently generated. They can be used to pursue variety of novel applications.
Transverse-pumping geometry can be utilized for efficient generation of far-infrared radiation in 13–30 μm based on difference-frequency generation in periodically-poled LiNbO3 at its polariton resonances. High conversion efficiencies are achievable.
Second, 3rd, and 4th order harmonics from a Fourier-transform-limited nanosecond CO 2 laser beam at 10.6μm were efficiently generated within one or two GaSe crystals. The peak output powers were determined to be 443, 23, and 2W, respectively, corresponding to conversion efficiencies of 3.0%, 0.13% and 0.0093%, which were significantly improved, compared with all the previous results. The linewidths...
Among almost all the work done on parametric processes in the past, two-photon absorption (TPA) has been intentionally avoided by properly choosing the pump wavelength. On the contrary, we have purposely explored how TPA sets the fundamental limit on the optical parametric generation (OPG) and oscillation (OPO) by using periodically poled LiNbO 3 (PPLN) as a testing nonlinear medium. Indeed,...
