A new design of all fiber-based, mode-locked laser with ultra-low phase noise of −158 dBc/Hz at 1MHz is reported. We demonstrate a new phase-locking technique for long-term and high-precision stabilization of mode-locked Er-fiber lasers by direct optical-microwave phase detection without high-speed photodiodes and mixers. The excellent locking performance reaches 2.1×10−18 at 4000-s averaging time.
We report a novel system for highly stable 100 MHz mode locked pulse as a reference frequency signal transfer through a round trip 20 km urban fiber link.
