The accuracy of well-known commercially available 3D electromagnetic simulation tools has been examined through designing, building, and testing several original microwave integrated circuits. It turns out that the accuracy of the tools considered is acceptable for most practical purposes, for frequencies up to 3 GHz (upper limit of our investigation).
This paper proposes two new multi-section dumbbell-shaped defected ground plane structures (DGS). The defects are created in the ground plane of the conventional single-layer microstrip transmission line. The proposed DGSpsilas application in microwave filtering is investigated. It turns out that these new DGSpsilas can be used to realize notch filters (i.e. narrow-band band-stop filters) with steep...
This paper provides a short review of radio frequency/microwave power amplifiers (PAs) and their critical role in a modern satellite communication system.
This paper proposes a new type of continuously tunable voltage-controlled analog phase shifter for radio frequency and microwave-frequency applications. The design uses a branchline coupler and two varactor diodes. The concept has been tested at 900 MHz using FR4 dielectric material using thin-film microstrip technology. The measured phase shift variation is 115 degree over the entire range of the...
This paper provides a short review of radio frequency/microwave power amplifiers (PAs) and their critical role in a modern satellite communication system. Authorspsila original design contributions are also highlighted.
A dielectric resonator (DR) placed in an open environment radiates strongly at and around its resonant frequencies. Among the advantages of DR antennas are their small size and no conductor loss. The other features of DR antennas are that each mode has a unique radiation pattern and the frequency bandwidth over which the antenna radiates efficiently can be controlled by choosing an appropriate value...
A new equivalent circuit is derived for a coaxial cable, taking into account the transient skin-effect. This model is required for analysis involving high speed digital or high frequency signal transmission. The model can be also applied where coaxial cables are studied for electromagnetic pulse (EMP) induced transients and the impact produced in electronic circuits. The solution for the transient...
