In this paper, we propose a novel pulse carver alignment monitoring method for RZ-DPSK and RZ-DQPSK signals by using equivalent tenth symbol delay phase portrait generated by delay-tap sampling technique. The sign and value of the time mis-alignment can be distinguished and quantized by simple pattern recognition on the phase portrait. The proposed method is tested in 10-Gb/s RZ-DPSK and 50-Gb/s RZ-DQPSK...
Optical performance monitoring (OPM) may play a key role for system management in high-speed optical fiber transmission systems. Delay-tap sampling (DTS) is a simple and effective method for OPM. In this paper, we review our techniques based on low bandwidth DTS to monitor chromatic dispersion (CD) and optical signal to noise ratio (OSNR), which increase the performance while reduce the cost.
In this paper, we summarize two chromatic dispersion monitoring techniques in high-speed transmission systems (> 40-Gbit/s). One method is based on optical filtering and RF spectrum analysis. The other one utilizes delay-tap sampling.
