We show that under certain conditions it is possible to define an equivalent single-span system for an arbitrary dispersion-managed multi-span system. This can facilitate the optimization of dispersion maps.
Electronic precompensation of intra-channel nonlinearities is theoretically studied in a transmission system consisting of 100% dispersion compensated spans. Different Mach-Zehnder transmitter structures are compared. Using a triple Mach-Zehnder modulator achieves effective compensation at 40 Gbit/s.
