In this paper, we investigate the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging problem via sparse atomic norm reconstruction. A stepped-frequency radar operation and a side looking radar is assumed. However, the analysis presented is general, and extensions to other SAR types, scenes and other radar waveforms are straightforward. The atomic norm is formulated and employed as a penalizer for SAR denoising...
In this research, we introduce a signal processing framework for joint GMTI and SAR algorithms that is based on orthogonal (transmit and receive) waveforms. Traditionally, radar systems are configured to operate either in GMTI or SAR processing mode, but not both simultaneously. This is due to the fact that operational parameters for these two modes are quite different. For example, exoclutter GMTI...
This paper presents an approach to detect people, or dismounts, using synthetic aperture radar (SAR). This approach is compared qualitatively with ground moving target indication (GMTI) radar and then quantitative results are presented using a P-band single phase center SAR. It is demonstrated that SAR provides an excellent methodology to detect dismounts.
The Cramer-Rao inequality is applied to the likelihood function of the synthetic aperture radar (SAR) scatterer parameter vector to relate the choice of flight path to estimation performance. Estimation error bounds for the scatterer parameter vector (including height) are developed for multi-dimensional synthetic apertures, and quantify the performance enhancement over a limited sector of the image...
