Here, we demonstrate the possibility of employing a novel low-loss dielectric material as substrate for free-space THz devices through the design, fabrication and characterization of broadband high-transparency high-pass mesh filters. Time-domain spectroscopy measurements show that a transmittance higher than 75% is achieved over a bandwidth of 1 THz.
We report on the transmission of terahertz (THz) electromagnetic waves through gold grids evaporated over a transparent silicon substrate. We observe a near-unity transmission in the subwavelength regime. When the THz wavelength is comparable to the grid periodicity, the grid serves as a grating coupler that allows us to excite guided modes in the device. These guided modes exhibit an intermediate...
We study the transmission, in the THz domain, of a metallic grid deposited over a high resistivity silicon substrate. By analyzing the transmission spectra recorded for different angles of incidence, we identify each guided mode of the structure. The p-polarized modes show a behavior that is intermediate between those of surface plasmon along the metal and of guided mode in the substrate.
