This paper presents a design of a metal cap with two slots attaching at the edge of a mobile module substrate for a 60GHz-band wireless personal area network (WPAN). The metal cap is fed by a post-wall waveguide (PWW) converted from a micro strip line (MSL). The size of the metal cap is 8.01× 2.34× 4.45 mm3. The reflection is less than −11 dB and the realized gain is larger than 9 dBi over 57–66 GHz.
This paper demonstrates plate-laminated waveguide filters in diffusion bonding technology for the first time and shows their uses in the integration with a corporate-feed slot array antenna for E-band ultrahigh capacity point-to-point communications. First, a single-cavity resonator model is studied and the measured high unloaded quality of 2121 at 79.07 GHz indicates its potential in the design of...
In this paper, a 60 GHz CMOS on-chip dipole antenna with helium-3 ion irradiated silicon substrate is designed using knowledge of electromagnetic simulation modeling. Rectangular region with 500 um × 1000 um around the dipole is irradiated by helium-3 ion and conductivity is reduced to 0.01 S/m (1 k Ohm cm). The width of dipole section is wide for broad bandwidth and reduction of conductor loss. There...
This paper presents a metal cap with two slots covering the end of the module substrate for a 60-GHz wireless personal area network (WPAN). The metal cap is fed by a microstrip line (MSL). The internal structure of the metal cap is simple, consisting of only a T-junction. The thickness and the height of the cap are 1.1 mm and 3.8 mm, respectively. The bandwidth for reflection less than −10 dB is 19...
Evaluation method of effective permittivity and permeability for dummy metal fills in a CMOS chip is proposed. For each component of anisotropic material property, capacitor and inductor models are considered for a unit-cell of dummy metal fills. The input impedance is obtained by electromagnetic analysis. Effective permittivity and permeability can be evaluated from the input impedance.
Millimeter-wave CMOS RF circuits have been received substantial attention, motivated by the advance of CMOS process [1]. In the millimetre-wave band, the connection, such as wire bonding or flip chip bonding, between the RF circuit and off-chip antenna is not easy task because of the radiation loss and/or adding parasitic components. To overcome the problem, on-chip antennas, which do not suffer from...
Due to the possibilities of high gain, high efficiency and height reduction, slotted waveguide array antennas have been widely used in many millimeter-wave applications such as radar systems and fixed wireless access systems. The fabrication technique by diffusion bonding of laminated thin plates ensures low cost and high precision of the slotted waveguide array antennas [1]. However, the slotted...
