By mixing three optical frequencies generated by an optical parametric oscillator under a novel configuration based in nonlinear crystals, multiple THz frequencies are efficiently generated. They can be used to pursue variety of novel applications.
Quasi-non-critical phase-matched optical parametric oscillation has been achieved in periodically bonded KTiOPO4 stack with a 1.064-μm pump laser. A slope efficiency of 65% has been measured for the total output power of signal and idler.
A sensitive technique has been implemented to measure the differences in refractive indices between rare-earth doped YAG and un-doped YAG. Theoretically, a refractive index difference of less than 10−6 can be identified.
