We numerically analyze differential mode delay (DMD) management scenarios in few-mode fiber systems with realistic, non unitary mode coupling. Our results indicate a significant MDM system memory reduction even with moderate coupling losses.
The capacity of MDM transmission systems may be significantly reduced by fiber splices. Using only a few additional mode scramblers along the link the influence of fiber splices to the capacity is reduced.
We investigate numerically the influence of fiber splices to the multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) outage capacity in mode multiplexed multi-mode fiber links. The capacity of long-haul transmission systems will be significantly influenced.
We present a novel concept for space-division multiplex with parallel transmission over legacy single-mode fibres with joint optical multi-channel amplifiers that are used by all fibres in common. OSIS codes: 060.0060, 060.1660
