Single transverse mode control is achieved for multimode GaAs-based VCSEL by utilizing photonic crystal design and etched trench structure. Theoretical analysis is initially performed for photonic crystal design with various lattice constant and air holes diameter. The fabricated photonic crystal VCSEL with etched trench structure exhibits single mode output power of 0.7 mW, threshold current of 3...
A 1310/1490/1550 nm wavelength demultiplexer consiss of two-dimensional photonic crystal is proposed. The system consists of three filters to separate the three wavelength into three different output channels. Filter 1 and 3 use circular defect scatterer and filter 2 use square defect scatterers. Square defect scatterers can increase the power transfer inside filter 2 when wavelength 1310 nm propagates...
A study was done to observe one of the characteristics of photonic crystal fibre (PCF), whereby it has the ability to generate four wave mixing (FWM). Through this characteristic, few theories related are presented in relation to this phenomenon and comparison is done towards the results obtained. The measurement arrangement is also described.

A multichannel wavelength division multiplexing system consisting of two-dimensional photonic crystal is proposed. The system consists of two parts, a waveguiding element, realized by line defects in a photonic crystal, and frequency-selective elements, realized by photonic crystal nanocavities. The device characteristics are studied numerically using finite difference time domain technique.
